Just received a communication from the Accountant in Bankruptcy to say that the application fee for a someone applying for their own sequestration is to rise to £200 on 1st June (from £100).
Not a big surprise, but unwelcome all the same!
Thanks for sharing that Kevin.
It's always unwelcome to see additional barriers being put in the way of people that want to deal with their debts.
£200 certainly compares very well with the £700 cost for personal bankruptcy in England and Wales though.
Glad to see your post Kevin. I should squeak through in advance of 1st June but I expected the increased figure to be closer to the £700 and effective earlier.
Great thats all i need to try and scrape together an extra hundred on top of the original 100 price as i wont be out my td probably until june from looks of it thanks to my td company.
Suppose i should be greatfull tho it is not 700 like in england and wales but thats really going to be a strain to scrape it all together now.
Thanks for the information kevin really appreciate the update.
There is actually another price comparison which paints the situation another way.
An alternative to bankruptcy in England and Wales, which is typically used by people with limited assets and income, is known as a Debt Relief Order.
A DRO costs £90, much less than the £200 for the similar low income low asset (LILA) route to bankruptcy in Scotland will soon be.
excuse my snippiness yesterday just read back what i said and sounds so rude i do appoligise. Didnt mean to come across like that, i'm just fedup now in the prediciment i'm in.
Trust deed assistant what debts can be included in a DRO. my future sister in law has got herself into debt and shes in oxford and feels as if shes sinking fast.
Hi Reidy1982.
There's no need to apologise as far as I can see.
Any unsecured debts can be included in a debt relief order by your future sister in law in England.
These debts must total less than £15000, her disposable income must be less than £50 per month, and her assets must also be very limited.
thank you trust deed assistant i just went to google the information so i can speak to her later and it says benefit overpayment can be included is this correct? as i only see that information on one site and want to be correct when i speak to her about this option, the reason i am asking is she had a issue with her benefits about a year ago and for past few months shes been paying few hundred back to council tax which has been severley effecting her income ontop of having to feed herself and three kids and pay other utilities and debts.
