First of all, a massive thank you to the Trust Deed staff and especially to Kevin Mapstone, AMI Financial Services for his professional advice and assistance. I decided that sequestration was the best option for me and with Kevin's assistance, I have to say it was very much a quicker and more simple process than I imagined. After years of struggling, constantly robbing Peter to pay Paul and feelings of despair - a mighty weight has been lifted and although I have to pay a set amount for the next 4 years, I don't mind because there is light at the end of the tunnel. One thing I would strongly recommend. Open up a Basic Bank account with another bank. I changed banks but opened an ordinary current account. Today, it was frozen and I spent a morning in the bank and on the phone sorting it out. I now have to change all the direct debits again. The staff in the bank were very professional but I felt very humiliated by it. Remember - Sequestration might not be the answer for everyone but it was fantastic for me - Just remember .....get a BASIC BANK ACCOUNT ONLY. Oh and another thing....if your bank is taking your benefit payments to offset overdrafts - it is illegal. I only found this out a few weeks ago.

Hi Annmarie15.

Congratulations to you for taking this big step forwards. It's great to hear that you've felt really well supported by Kevin and his team during this process.

You make an excellent point about basic bank accounts. Bank staff don't tend to push these basic accounts so it's easy to end up with an account that isn't technically available to people using bankruptcy or other types of debt solutions. The disruption caused by a frozen bank account certainly can be significant.

For anyone considering starting a debt solution you might want to have a read of this article about switching bank accounts beforehand (it's far easier than it used to be):

Best wishes with everything Annmarie15.

Brilliant to hear Annmarie15 that you are feeling much better about things. People are always nervous and worried about Sequestration but it can actually be a very simple and straight forward option to deal with debts. Your in safe hands with Kevin.

Good luck for the future.
