Hey guys,

Looking for a bit of advice. I have been in a trust deed for 2 years now but have had its up and downs. I have a letter through looking for statements/wageslips etc for my review just as last year.

I have a little problem. I'm best starting from the start. The first year I paid every month with no problems then last year for the first time in my life I lost my job. This was around April and I had to deal with the company and provided evidence which was fine. Well 5 months later and ALOT of pressure from the company to make payments was lots of stress put on my family. I had £146 every 2 weeks and they tried to make me still pay my £200 every month which I just couldn't do with my 1 year old and step son. Anyways at the time and money issue put stress on my marriage which by mid last year we separated but had to tell a little lie to our family that we were still together this was due to my wife's mum having cancer and going through kimo we didn't want to put any stress on her. I ended getting a temporary job just to get the trust deed company off my back. They would phone 5-10 per month chasing payment and having to tell the same story was getting embarrassing. And at the end I felt is was a threat that If I couldn't make payment they would have to re consider my trust deed. Every day and every week I would send proof of jobs I applied for and interviews etc. Like I say 38 years old and I had been working since 16 this was the first time in my life I was out of work. The temp job finished and I had 2 months before I started part time but I just continued to pay to save any hassle. Oh during this period I was in a car accident and my car had to go in for repairs through my insurance and had emails etc sent to my trust deed to explain and show proof of the repair and excess I must pay was £250 but they said I must pay my trust deed.

Also at the start of my trust deed was a nightmare they messed up all my paperwork and I must have phoned countless time as my trust deed wasn't protected. I mean event one day I phoned 5 times and eventually was put through to someone who wasn't a advisor. But they made up some story and said the would email me the personal email. I never got it and again back to phoning. After 7 months it was sorted. Anyways I've ranted on a bit but just to give you an idea of why I'm worried to speak and bring this up due to everything. Oh forget trying to get hold of my trustee I think the person is made up haha.

Well we moved home last year to be close to my mother in law. I miseed 5 months last year but started making payment in October I'm sure and have kept up payment every month. I have started a new job in January but pay is £600 less per month when my review last year was done. My mother in law got the all clear in December and January me and my wife finally separated and I have moved in with my parents full time now who don't know about my deed. I was in a joint account with my wife and have finally got my own account last month which can be difficult to get.

With the review coming in asking for my I&E and bank statements and wageslips just the same as last year. Wage slips are not a problem, my I&E has completely changed so I'm a bit worried. I now may rent/money for food to my parents and money to my wife (separated)but minus £600 per month has been tough to get through per month. Like I said it a new account and only have 1 statement. Yeah I asked my ex partner if I can get copies but she has refused and I can understand why.

I am just looking for a bit of advice on how to manage this. I am still making payment every month but it is a struggle.

Sorry to go on a bit. Thanks

Welcome to the forum Jroger.

I'm sorry to hear that you've been having such a tough time.

In terms of your question at the end of your post, we can only really encourage you to be entirely open with your trustee about everything that you mention. Finding an appropriate way forwards isn't going to happen unless your trustee fully understands your current financial position.

Hi Jroger. A trustee is meant to assess your situation and adapt your payments accordingly so that you are only ever paying as much as is reasonably affordable. I can understand you feeling worried about this process given your previous experiences with your trustee.

Best to put them in the picture as well as you can and provide evidence where possible. Hopefully everything will run more smoothly than you fear.
