Hi all, I am discharged from being bankrupt. However I may be getting made redundant in a few weeks. What happens to the payments I am making to the trustee if I get made redundant?

Thank you.

Hello Mrsembaressed.

Just to confirm, you're discharged from bankruptcy but still within the period during which you're making payments towards your debts?

Sorry to hear about the possible redundancy - I hope you get some good news on that score and your question turns out to be unnecessary!

If it is any consolation, you only have to make contribution payments from your income if you can afford to. Obviously if you are not earning then they should not expect any payments from you.

Thank you for your reply. I got discharged from bankruptcy about 1 month ago. If I am made redundant and obviously can't make payments is the amount I still owe put on hold until I get a new job and then would it start back up again?

Thanks

Hi again.

With bankruptcy you're asked to pay the deemed affordable amount. If that becomes zero then so be it. There will not be contributions beyond the three year point.

Please forgive me, not really getting my head round this.

I am due to pay my contribution for a further two years as I have paid my 1st year and now discharged. I'm hoping that I don't get made redundant, but if I do I'm hoping not to be out of work for long.

If after a few weeks/months, I get another job will my contributions start up again?

Thanks

They would if you could afford to pay.

However you will not need to make up any time or money for the period where you cannot pay.
