Hi everybody not been on for a while,10mths to go,whoopee, but my question is,should I rebuild my own credit score or still stay in joint accounts with my wife, and also my wifes td is been extended another 4 mths, now could we double the payments to pay it off in 2mths,would this have any detramental effects on the td,still a great site, whether there daft or sensible questions it all helps in this stressful time.
Hi Johnd,
It's good to hear that you only have 10 months to go in your Trust Deed. You must be counting down the months and payments.
When you complete all your agreed payments I don't see a problem with you using your surplus money to assist in paying down your wife's remaining contributions. I would give your relationship manager/Trustee a call to run this by them.
Thanks for the kind comments regarding the site. I think all questions are relevant whether they may seem a little daft or sensible and serious as everyone has a different way of thinking. Every day is a learning day and sometimes what can seem like a daft question can teach you something or there are another 5 people too scared or shy to ask as it may seem daft.
I think once you have been discharged you can start to be proactive and chase your creditors to update your credit file and once your wife has received her discharge she can do the same. If you have had joint debt/bank account or are financially linked in any way with your wife then there will always be a financial association with her on your credit file. I've recently used Noodle for my credit report as in the past I have used the free trial with Experian and Equifax. Noodle doesn't charge you anything to join and there is no end period for the membership so it might be best to have a look at this to see what your credit file is showing at the moment.
How have you found the whole Trust Deed process Johnd?

I don't see why you couldn't double the payments to pay it off within 2 months, johnd. Just let the trustee know that this is what you would rather do.
Not sure on the credit score thing to be honest - I think your credit files are probably linked regardless of whether you still have a joint account or not.
