It has now been almost a year since my Trust Deed discharge. I want to build up a credit rating again. How can I do this? Would I need to take out a small loan and make the repayments on time to prove I can do this again. It's a scary thought but I can't think of any other way of doing it. Please help.
Do you have a mobile phone contract? This will be helping as long as you pay on time every month. You could also Try applying for one of the higher interest rate credit cards like vanquis or aqua etc but make sure you only use them for things like food and fuel etc and dont do cash advances as these show on credit file now and pay the full balance every month due to the extortionate interest. Some other members will be along with other ideas.
Hi Neelia
Get a copy of your Credit Report to see what is on it is a good starting point.
Mobile phone contract is a good suggestion.

Look at cashplus prepaid mastercard too?. There is the option to have the fees advanced to you and deducted from the account monthly, they then record it as a loan in terms of your credit file.
Hi Neelia,
I am 3 years out of my TD and to rebuild my credit I had a Vanquis card and a Littlewoods catalogue (both I paid in full every month).
Hope this helps
Thank you all for your advice.
Hi, I got a vanquis credit card 4 months after getting discharged from my TD. I also got a mobile contract from 3 at the same time. I paid the credit card in full each month & after 4 months I've had a limit increase. I think it's slowly but surely with your credit rating. Also look at your credit file & check it's correct, I had lots of defaults each month even though I got discharged. You just need to contact all companies & send them a copy of your discharge letter & that usually sorts things out. I hope this helps you, it did me.
a catalogue is much easier to be accepted for so that may be a good starting point.
