I am working in a bank as an advisor within the fraud department through an agency. I had to agree to a credit check which I was worried about as I entered into a trust deed in 2003. Anyway, I must have passed as I got through and have been in the job for 3 months now.
Now I have been offered a permanent contract with the bank and I have paperwork to fill out which again includes my agreement to disclosure and credit checks and I am worried sick. One of the forms specifically asks if i've ever went into a trust deed and if so to give details. I am so stressed out that this will be the end for me and I love the job.
I know it's all fell off my file and my finances are all in order. I have been able to get credit again over the last couple of years, although I'm very careful and never miss payments etc. I just don't know what to do as I don't want to lie. So do I go with honesty is the best policy, which my heart is telling me to do or do I leave it out and explain if it ever comes out which I think I would find embarrassing? Does anyone know the kind of outcome I can expect from this?
Welcome to the trust deed forum laurayn.
I think that a bank fraud department is one in which the employer will put a premium on the integrity of their employees. If you are untruthful in your application that will be hanging over you for as long as you are in the job.
It's interesting that details of an old trust deed are asked for. If a trust deed in the past was a total barrier to employment I wonder whether the details would be asked for?
Good luck whatever you decide.
Thanks for the welcome. I think I will go with my heart and let them know. I'm reasoning with myself that the bank employs tens of thousands of people, surely some have a similar history as anyone can find themselves in trouble at times. I hope they see that the steps I took were a positive thing. As I say, it doesn't even show on my credit history, it is well in the past. I will be gutted though if they don't accept me as I've worked hard to build myself up again. Never slept a wink last night gor worrying ๐
Hi Laurayn
I can undrstand why you would be tempted not to tell them, but I agree with TDA that you should be honest about your Trust Deed. If you lie, and it came to light for any reason, there could be worse consequences for lying, and you would always be scared they found out. I hope if you explain your reason, and how you are now very much in control of your finances, they will admire your honesty.

I went for a job in a bank and had just entered my trust deed. Needlees to say I never got the job. But you have finished your trust deed and are now in control of your finances. Be honest!
Thanks folks! Went in tonight and laid it all out bare to them. My manager was really nice and said she will go in early tomorrow and speak to the dept that deals with it all. She thinks it would be harsh of them given it's nearly 9 years since I went into it and I've had no problems since. She says at the worst I'd be able to plod along with the agency. I feel a bit better getting it off my chest and will post an update once I know the outcome. At least I'll sleep tonight...now that is worth it lol!!
