Reached the end of TD

I made my final payment on the 1st May this year and after 5 years, it all appears to be over with. I hadn’t heard anything from the trustee, however, no payment was taken on 1st June and I noticed today that the CPA has been cancelled. I’ve yet to receive any paperwork, other than the form 4 which arrived yesterday, and suppose I shouldn’t presume anything until the form 5 arrives. That said, with the payment arrangement cancelled, it does look as though the discharge process has begun.

I occasionally see posts on the forum from people wondering if a TD is right for them, but if it’s been discussed and agreed that it is your best option, then it’s definitely worth considering. The hardest part , for me anyway, was making the initial call and overcoming the self-inflicted shame and guilt that can come with debt. But that really is the hard bit. Once you get used to your new budget, the only thing you have to do is hit the review link they send you once or twice a year.

One thing I would recommend, if you do suffer from any mental health issues - it’s definitely worth mentioning this. The company who I have dealt with have been particularly patient with me, especially if I became anxious at any time. I don’t know if I was just lucky, or if it’s part of the training, but it did help.

As someone who 5 years ago didn’t think there was a way out and couldn’t see a future without debt, I can now say there is a future.

Hope this might help someone.

Welcome to the trust deed forum Maglin.

It's great to hear that you're reaching the very final stages of this process.

Thank you for sharing your experience. It's certainly the case now that reputable firms understand that some of their customers are vulnerable (or may become temporarily vulnerable) so they invest in their staff's ability to properly support customers in such a situation.

Letting your trust deed provider know, if this applies to you in any way, can help them to help you in an appropriate manner.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Maglin, and congratulations on completing your payments. I imagine the extra funds in your pocket will be proving very useful to you given how expensive life is these days!

I hope the form 5 comes through soon and you can celebrate being formally discharged.
