Hi all,
I have two more payments left of my trust deed (whoop, whoop!), which was confirmed by my IP just the other day. I asked if there would be any reason that discharge would be held up. She explained the process and told me it should all just be a matter of course. She never mentioned claiming PPI. Although I don't believe I have any to claim. However, I was wondering...do they only investigate PPI on the creditors/banks involved in your trust deed or is it any previous loans credit cards in the past?
Thanks in advance
Karen
Hi Bampot.
This may vary from firm to firm, but I'd imagine a trust deed firm would be interested to investigate whether there is the potential to raise money to help repay creditors via any PPI claim (rather than just focussing on accounts that happen to be included in a trust deed).
Agree, both ongoing and settled accounts are being investigated and are required to be rinvestigated for PPI claims.
Chris is not currently posting in the Trust-Deed.co.uk forum.
Hi, first post on here also but been watching for the last three years as my trust deed has slowly counted down.
I also have 2 payments left and with luck everything should be ok.
My only real concern is this PPI issue. Now I know I don't have any PPI due to me and will obviously tell them that whenever I am asked, but I do have a few points.
1: Why do they wait until the end of the trust deed before they look into the possibility of PPI. After all they have had 3 years to look at anything. Is there a reason or is it just an excuse to drag things on.
2: Why does it seem to take so long for them to process any PPI issues as it does not seem to be too difficult a job, well according to the ads on TV anyway. I know a couple of people who claimed PPI ond it was only a couple of months from start to getting a cheque.
3: How long do they stay in office, is there a time limit or is this always going to be hanging over you even though you have met all the terms of the trust deed. Does this also mean that if they saty in office any other windfalls are taken into account or is it only for PPI.
Sorry to have given so many questions on my first post but as I said I have been watching the forum for a long time and it has helped me several times, maybe I am just getting nervous as I get closer to the finish line.........
i know i received a considerable payout for a ppi claim, made on my behalf by a company working for my td company,as i received the letter which was passed on to my trust deed firm, is there any way i can find out if any further ppi payouts have been made to my account, and is there a time limit on how far back these ppi claims can be persued.
Hi gordy1965 and welcome. I'm glad that the forum has been useful to you as you have worked towards the final stages of completing your trust deed.
In terms of your questions:
1 - I don't really know why a firm would now choose to wait. If it needs doing at some point why not get on with it? It probably does need to be remembered though that some firms have only recently decided that they should investigate PPI. I'm sure that they will be working backwards chronologically through their client-base, which will therefore inevitably involve working with people in the final stages of their trust deeds first. I cannot see any firm wanting to drag things on without reason as it's not in the interests of any of the parties to the arrangement.
2 - Some creditors have been quicker than other to deal with claims, and I'm sure some claims management firms operate more efficiently than others. Probably best not to make comparisons with the advertisements as they tend to exaggerate, but you make a good point that a lot of PPI claims are being settled very quickly at the moment.
3 - They'll stay in office to complete any outstanding matters (PPI and VAT have been discussed here a fair amount recently). If you have been formally discharged other windfalls would not need to be paid over.
Hi barneymagrew.
I believe the usual rules about how far backwards claims can look have been relaxed in order to hold those that missold PPI financially responsible. I'm afraid I cannot remember if there is a time limit.
You can certainly ask your trustee about whether further PPI claim payments have been made that your creditors will benefit from (or not perhaps if they were guilty party for the misselling!).
Thanks TDA, great answers as usual.
What happens re: any PPI payouts that were made before a trust deed was signed? I had a reasonable payout about 8 months before I signed my TD. It had a chunk swallowed by the PPI company that made the claim on my behalf. The rest was split in half with my ex as it was from a joint loan before we split, and my share was then swallowed paying off some of my debts. I had also claimed some PPI back a couple of years before that. Just concerned my IP will look for that money that was long gone before the TD started.
Glad that's over with....
Thanks for that. I'm about 2 years from discharge at the moment, and I have to deal with KPMG so guessing there's no point at this early stage given everyone's recent experience with them.
Glad that's over with....
thanks for your reply tda.
