Hi there, new to forum so apologies if this has been asked before.

I am 18 payments into mt trust deed and have found out unexpectedly that I am 3 months pregnant. My questions are:
1.Is there any flexibility within a trust deed for the payments to be suspended temporariliy while I am on Maternity Leave and if so is there scope for payments to stop before my leave start to help me buy one or two large items I will need for baby, pram etc, be buying second hand to keep costs down.

2. When should I notify IP anout my situation

Hi mj301073, welcome to the forum.

There is flexability within a Trust Deed to suspend payments however you may well be asked by the Trustee to make up any missing payments at the end of the Trust Deed.

I would let your Trustee know as soon as possible and get them to confirm how they want to deal with it in writing.

Julie

Sorry Julie, does that mean a lump sum payment of what may be suspended or just like an extension of payments that were missed when I return to work.

Hello mj301073.

It will mean extending the monthly trust deed payments to make up for the period when you weren't in a position to pay.

The idea is simply to ensure that the creditors receive the same return on the debts that they originally agreed to (albeit a little later).

Hi guys,

Sorry to bother you again. I have contacted my IP and been advised that they can't tell me if it is possible to suspend payments for the duration of my maternity leave. I have explained that the company I work for doesn't have a maternity package and I will only be in receipt of Statutory maternity for 9 months. I have told them when I plan to finish up but cant confirm as I havent confirmed with employer yet, not far enough into pregnancy.

They have just said keep making monthly payments and they will reassess payments when Im due to leave. Is this normal When I already know I wont be receiving any additional monies from Employer. I want to be able to plan ahead for when im off work as I wont be entiltled to any additional help etc.

They have also said they will assess what my outgoings will be when the baby arrives. I have explained I will be returning to work as soon as I can to continue with payments to complete my TD. by the time I am leaving for Maternity leave there wuill be only 12 payments left to make.

Can you advise?

Hi there.

You cannot make payments to the trust deed if you don't have enough income to do so, it really is as straightforward as that.

Sounds like you'll just need to get in touch in a few months and provide your updated income and expenditure details. Please don't worry too much in the interim as there are obviously much more important and happier things to think about.
