seems that plenty of companies believe that any money due to you in ppi claims existed at the time you had debts to them which they will offset using the ppi claim.

Good luck in using the fos as I dont think anyone else has been successful in overturning such action so far.

Hi Susan.

This seems to be the stand that RBS are taking in these circumstances. Unfortunately whether its fair or right has not been established as it appears that the only way to challenge it would be through legal action which against a big organisation like RBS would be very expensive.

If you search through the forum you will find quite a few others who have had a similar problem.

Good luck with the Financial Ombudsman susan.

RBS appear to believe they're not obligated to pay out in these circumstances, so it becomes up to you to try to force them (if you want to).

We don't really know susan.

No harm in trying I suppose but from what we've learned so far I wouldn't build your hopes up too much.
