Hi
I recently signed a trust deed & included my bank overdrafts in the debt. I opened a new basic bank account. I checked my old account out of curiosity and have noticed it is now minus (£14 over overdraft limit) as a payment took a few days to come off. I am worried this will somehow affect my trust deed though I have been told not to worry about anything that occurs after signing. Just looking for a bit of reassurance really! I'm worried that because I have gone over the overdraft amount this will somehow have an impact on the trust deed. Should I pay the £14? I should also mention that I had set up a new direct debit for a bill that is due to come out my old account in a few days (I forgot about it as it was set up before I signed the trust deed) but it does not show up on my old online banking as a direct debit I can cancel. I have been unable to contact the company due to the bank holiday weekend and although I will call to cancel it tomorrow it may be too late. I am worried this will come off too but I'm hoping it'll bounce! What is the best course of action for things like this?
Thanks in advance!
Hi ptee, welcome to the forum.
I think it is likely that the bank will just write off the £14 eventually, despite the fact that technically they could seek repayment of it from you as it is from after the Trust Deed was signed. There is no reason it should cause any problems with your Trust deed though, so don't worry.
Hi ptee,
Well done on taking positive action to deal with your debts and enter into a Trust Deed.
I can’t see there being any problems with this and it shouldn’t have any impact on your Trust Deed. It’s actually really common for this to happen and as Kevin has pointed out it’s something that the bank will more than likely write off.
You could always give the bank a call and ask them to cancel the direct debit which is due to come off. I think until the first direct debit payment comes off it won’t show on your online banking. You want to ensure that going forward you have cancelled everything on the old account and just leave this. You won’t be able to close or cancel the account as there is an overdraft but in time this will resolve itself.
Try not to over think things too much or worry although I know it’s easy for me to say that. If you are worried and need some reassurance give your Trustee a call.
