Hi,
I'm soon to be moving in with my partner. He had a 3 year trust deed, which finished a year ago. Naturally we are both delighted he paid it without any payment problems. We are about to check his credit history on Experion to make sure everything is recorded correctly. I believe I am correct that the bad credit should be wiped in 2 years time, i.e. 6 years in total. Is this correct?

Also, when I move in I will obviously register to be on the council tax register amd also the electoral role. My credit history is perfect. Will doing this link me to his poor credit history and affect mine, or is it only if we have joint bank accounts, loans, etc that we would be linked?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the trust deed forum partner.

Credit records are individual things. Yours cannot be affected by moving in with someone.

However a link between your records could be created if you get a joint financial arrangement of some sort. Your credit rating would be unchanged, but the link might make some lenders wary.

If everything was recorded correctly the previous problems should vanish from your partners credit file six years after the trust deed started.

I don't think that both of you being on the electoral register at the same address will create any link between your credit records - as far as I am aware this is only for joint financial arrangements.

Thanks both of you for your advice. We do have a joint deposit account we use for saving. This has not shown up on my Experian report. Should I remove myself from this account? Would that be more of a "red flag"? Or as it is just a deposit account is this ok?

Hi partner.

My understanding is that purely savings accounts are not monitored by the credit reference agencies.
