Hi there
I am about to enter a trust deed and my first step is to open a new bank account as the majority of my debt is to the RBS through a loan and two credit cards. I have an appointment with HSBC next week to open an account. Just wondered, do I tell them Im doing a trust deed?? Thanks in advance for any replies.
Welcome to the trust deed forum les67.
Some bank accounts are available to people in trust deeds and some aren't. Your new bank may find out about the trust deed when it is advertised even if they don't ask you or you choose not to tell them.
Therefore its important for you to check that any account you are thinking of opening is available to people in trust deeds. These will typically be the more basic bank accounts without credit facilities.
I'm not aware of the basic accounts offered by HSBC or their acceptance criteria for their accounts.
Some bank accounts we believe might be suitable are listed and described at:
Thank you so much for the prompt reply. Think I'll cancel the appointment with HSBC and go with one of your recommendations.

I went with lloyds TSB, I told them about the TD and they were happy with me opening a basic account. The good aspect about them is if you have a smartphone you can download their app and keep a constant eye on your finances, their internet banking is good to. The only downside is that you can only use a lloys or post office cash machine to withdraw money which can be a bit of a pain.
Hi les67
One of my Sequestration cases recently went to HSBC, but were rejected. They tried it because they had just opened up in their area. but were not successful. If you have a Barclays near you, they are fabulous, and don't mind you going into a Trust Deed, or Sequestration. Good luck

i would perhaps open up a bank account with a bank you do not have any debt with. Given the number of banking institutes available - you shouldnt find this a problem.
