Hi all,
I am in the process of looking to move in with my girlfriend. We are looking to rent privately.
I currently live with a housing association and the rent is around ?ú270 per month. With the place we are looking to move into when the rent is split its ?ú272.
I will obviously save money on Council Tax and other household bills which might mean I will be able to increase my payments to the TD by a little bit. I am happy to do that if need be, but its likely to be no more than ?ú30-?ú50.
I was wondering what happens with a trust deed when you go from living alone to living with someone? Will they make my girlfriend pay some of my debts?
I think our overall household income works out around 65/35%, me being the 65%.
Can anyone enlighten me on what the process would be and how I should approach this with my IP?
Hi scotslad
The Trustee may review matters as they will need to look at combined household income and expenditure. That said I'm sure your girlfriend has her own non household expenses from her income, so wouldn't expect any real change in contribution.

I moved in with my fiance about 18 months ago, at the time she earned about twice as much as me, but given my situation, we agreed I would pay what I could, pretty much the rent I was paying at home before I moved out and some extras, and her salary would cover most of everything else.
When I had a review not long after, I made a note explaining what had happened, and that a loan and other things showing on the bank statements were not mine, and my payments actually remained the same. Even when she had our wee girl, we managed through as she saved some of her salary for a few months as a backup, and even when she went back to work part-time, we managed on half her salary and mine, and my payments managed to stay the same, so your payment might not even change at all if you explain everything to your trustee.
