Hi
Just wondering if anyone has any success stories regarding mortgages to give me some hope?!

I've been advised by 2 credit unions they will consider me a year after discharge, I just hope it's not too good to be true. I was discharge in February this year, my husband was discharged in January. All our defaults are marked as settled. I'm hoping to apply next February which will be a year from discharge. Just wondered if anyone had managed to secure a credit union mortgage?

Hi lp24.

I know David has referenced one credit union here before that will consider an application a year after discharge.

I think we've also heard from a few people who have obtained a mortgage a year after their discharge, though I don't think this is the norm and the product range available is very limited.

Hopefully someone can share something positive with you soon.

Hi lp24,

Itโ€™s positive to hear that credit unions will consider you 1 year after your discharge. This is what I was told by Glasgow Credit Union a couple of years back. I think if they credit unions have told you think directly then it should be fine. They did advise me that a client must also meet the rest of their lending criteria.

There are a number of people who have posted on the forum about going onto secure a mortgage following their discharge but the main things are time, ensuring that your credit report is up to date and default dates are accurate and also a good deposit. If you do all of that and can wait the time Iโ€™m sure you will go onto by a house so try and stay positive.

David is not currently posting in the Trust-Deed.co.uk forum
