Hi there,
I moved down to London from Scotland in June and due to the higher cost of living in London my Trust Deed company reduced my monthly repayments. I originally thought that the trust deed would still last just the 3 years but I've just found out that they have extended my repayment period. Is this right? Also, I would just like to ask before I call them up, I am really struggling financially this month due to the holiday/Christmas period. Would the trust feed company allow me to suspend my payment for even just one month so as I can get back on my feet??
Thanks

Hi Kenny1781 and welcome to the trust deed forum.
Trust deeds are accepted by creditors on the basis of what has been offered to them at the start. For that reason, where an individual makes a voluntary choice that reduces their ability to contribute to a trust deed, it's pretty common for the term to be extended to take account of that.
It may be different where circumstances change for reasons that are out of your control. For example, if you are made redundant and can only find new work on a lower salary. When this happens a Trustee might not extend the term even if monthly payments reduce.
Payment holidays aren't a general feature of trust deeds. Having said that, I think it's unlikely that your trust deed would be failed for missing a single payment. At a minimum it would likely further extend the term however and not go down very well at the firm concerned.
This may be different if there was an essential reason for having to miss a payment. An example might be repairing a car that's required to attend work, or repairing a broken boiler. Often the trust deed firm would ask for some documentary back-up of this scenario, for example a receipt, for their file. As before any agreed missed payment would generally be added onto the term.
Thank you so much or the info!!!!!!
Talk to your firm,it should have been explained when your payments were lowered that the TD would be extended.
As for breaks I was allowed one to buy a 2nd hand car after mine blew up!! But had to make up the shortfall over the remaining time left on the TD.
