MOD Security Clearance

Recently started my trust deed in Dec, (2 payments to date), and all going well, apart from hassle from creditors, (discussed in separate post). My employer has a contract with MOD, and I may be needed to visit site occasionally. As a result I probably have to get MOD security clearance, with the defence vetting agency.

Does anyone have any experience of this while in a trust deed? I know they will carry out a credit check, and therefore send me a full financial check form. I went through similar with a different company in 2006, and got to the financial check stage, but I decided not to proceed, as I was leaving the company in any case.

I would hope that the fact that I have a trust deed in place, shows that I have decided to get finances under control and take action, (unlike in 2006). Hopefully this wouldn't be a barrier to getting clearance.

Does anyone have any opinion on this?

Hello mcbz9,

This isn't a scenario that I'm familiar with but hopefully one of the experts will have experience of this or some kind of comparable situation.

I am sure for example that there are members of the armed forces, with security clearance, who have experienced financial difficulty in the past.

Hi mcbz9

I don't think there is a definitive answer to this as such as it may rest on the person making the decision.

I have had a number of cases where they have been or become Police officers, worked for the MOD etc with no adverse effect. So hopefully it will be fine.

I think you are correct as you would be less of a risk having taken the action to resolve financial worries.

Thanks Mark. I'll just be honest on the forms and see how it goes.
