Hi, im due to start maternity leave and my salary will will go from £1400 to just over £590 per month i live with my partner and i pay him rent each month i;m currently paying £550 per month to my td which leaves me me with £900 per month to live i'm just really worried that i will still be asked for a large amount when of on maternity and i wont be able to live....can they say that a td is no use any more and make me bankrupt? i will only be off for around 4 months .. and i have been paying my td for 13 months now never missed a payment..

Hello bailey.

The starting point will be to talk this through with your trust deed provider.

It's well understood that things change in peoples lives and there is scope within a trust deed to accomodate that.

As your change of circumstances appears likely to be temporary I'd be surprised if a workable way forwards cannot be found.

As trust deed assistant says, it should be possible to reduce or suspend your payments temporarily - though you are likely to have to catch up with these payments at some point, or at the end of the trust deed.

When my fiance had our wee girl last January, I was given permission to skip payments for a couple of months as I would be on unpaid Paternity leave due to having to change jobs just beforehand. They missed payments are being added on to the end of my deed in the next couple of months.

Hi bailey.

I cannot see any harm in asking lots of questions, after all you are paying them to carry out this process for you and part of their work is to make sure you understand everything.

I do hope that you feel more relaxed now that you know where you stand for the period of your maternity leave?

Hi bailey.

I really cannot see why they would stop helping you after they have already agreed to your perfectly reasonable request.

I hope this helps and reassures a little. Your situation isn't unique, for many reasons things can and do change during a trust deed, but so long as everyone is best served by a bit of flexibility being shown I'm sure things will be fine.
