Partner has applied for bank loan and got decline due to having bankruptcy information in his name when he has never had any of the sort in his life! I am attached to this account as a joint party but did this once my TD was finished...It's due to fall off my file in Sept 2019, do you think it is me who is stopping him getting credit?

Hi Lorryjo1983.

There's no way for us to know the answer, but this is a possible explanation. If a bank sees that a financially connected party has had some credit issues, it may well make them less likely to lend to the applicant.

It's worth looking at his credit file though, to make sure incorrect information hasn't been added there.

That's the thing we've spent fortunes on Equifax, Experian the lot and there's no information showing and all accounts are up to date - so it must be me!

It's the way the letter came in saying we have found bankruptcy information in your name - but there's none!

That letter sounds poorly written, if they actually mean a financially connected person.

Yeah we are with both Noddle and Clearscore too. It's the RBS that have sent the letter and he almost freaked out so we went on the credit report trail with every one there is and nothing is showing and all accounts are up to date anyway. Rather confusing!

It may be a mistake on their part - worth challenging them on it I'd say. If it is you then at least they should be able to tell you so.
