As you may remember I was with nationwide but now changed to barclays to be on the safe side. nationwide account is till open as a wee spare. I was thinking about transferring ยฃ20 a month into nationwide to cover my professional registration fees paid annually. If NW did close or freeze my account, would I lose the money or get a chance to withdraw it before they do ?

Hi kdog7,

You would be given a chance to withdraw the money and then the account would be closed so I wouldn't worry about losing the money.

Normally what happens is you try to withdraw money or use the account and the machine will reject this or keep the card. You then pop into the branch and will be informed that they are closing the account and to withdraw the money. Sometimes they will give you 28 days notice to do this.

If you don't use the account for withdrawals that often then you may receive a letter advising that they will be closing the account.
