Hi, thank you for all your help, i havent heard back from the insurance company and i am becoming worried, i made the claim at the start of october, i still have the band and all the paperwork receipts ect, so the man who came out said everything looked totaly fine and wouldnt be a problem, but then he asked if we had any CCJ's Trust Deeds or Bankruptcy, my husband has only just signed his paperwork 2 weeks ago so i know it hasnt came through yet and we have no CCJ's but i was declaired bankrupt about 3 days before he came out, the policy is only in my husbands name, so i did say no, but know i am worried i should have said yes and might not be paid out and left without my ring. My policy for my car and house insurance is due for renewal and i am worried about that aswell!!

Hi girl10.

I think you need to be quite careful about having made an incorrect statement to the insurer in connection to a claim (if I'm reading your post correctly). Information about bankruptcies is publicly available if someone wanted to go looking.

Your car and house insurance shouldn't be a problem, Hamish seems to be suggesting just to double check the insurer you choose isn't one (of what seems to be a minority) that make policy exclusions connected to bankruptcy, insolvency or Scottish trust deeds.

Hi girl10
Id call them up to see what the situation is, they seem to be taking a long time to settle this claim. You will be covered as the loss happened before either of you went into TD/bankruptcy, if they are aware of the TD/Bankruptcy i would point this out to them that this happened AFTER the claim was made.
You will need to check they are ok with your situation if you renew with them and just give your car insurers a quick phone as well just to check. Let me know how you get on.
good luck

Thanks again for your contribution on this subject Hamish.

It's really valuable when members share their own relevant professional knowledge to help out other members. There has been similar assistance recently from members to members on credit unions and the way private landlords think and act which I think adds a lot to the value of the site.
