Hi all,
Can anyone advise? I was discharged from my trust deed in June of this year. My trustee is remaining in office to investigate PPI. I realise that others having been waiting a lot longer than I, but isn't 6 months plus an excessive amount of time to investigate PPI? So, if anyone has any experience of this, how long did you wait? Or to the experts, what is your experience of the time it takes for the trustee to discharge themselves?
Thanks in advance

Hi Bampot.

Your trustee remaining in office to deal with PPI need not hold you back.

Thanks for your replies. I understand that it doesn't have a huge bearing on my life. But I would like to have the trust deed completed and be able to put this period of my life behind me. But, what I was asking is, what part of the PPI investigation take 6 months plus? Surely it would be more prudent to ask if I had ever taken PPI on loans and credit cards. It would save a lot of people's time and money. What I was hoping to find out from one of the experts is, how long (in general) does it take for these investigations to be completed and at what time does it start to be excessive?
Again thanks

Hi Bampot.

Some possible delays might include:

1 - The time to instruct a claims firm.

2 - How quickly the claims firm contacts possible sellers of PPI.

3 - How quickly these possible sellers respond.

4 - Any time taken to argue a claim or negotiate a settlement.

5 - Communication back to the trustee.

6 - How quickly the trustee deals with the communication from the claims firm.

7 - How quickly they move to discharge themselves.

There are therefore a lot of variables that make it difficult to provide a blanket answer. For some people you'd expect it to be really quick, in other circumstances it might justifiably take quite a long time. We have also read here some examples here where it seems as though things could be moving a lot quicker than they have done.

Just wondering - If you are granted discharge at the end of a TD with a few outstanding PI claims remaining and the IP remains in office, Will the IP remain in contact with me until my case is closed or is it simply once your discharged no other contact is required.

Thanks for that TA.
I think my case was passed to a company almost immediately. Of which I have had no correspondence. Is it possible for me to contact the company directly to find out where they are in their investigations? There appears to be no urgency with this matter and it is allowed to go on indefinitely. Having adhered to all aspects of my trust deed, is it unreasonable to expect a swift conclusion? It would be helpful even, if there was a likely time frame placed on it in which it may be concluded.

Thanks again

Hi Bampot.

I don't think there is any reason at all why you couldn't ask for an update from both your trustee and the claims firm.

Hopefully that will give you some information to determine whether they're getting on with it promptly or not.

Hi Payback.

I'm not sure there would be much reason to communicate with you given that you have been discharged from the trust deed.

Hi Bampot,

My PPI "investigation" has lasted 11 months and counting, and I never took any PPI out! Though at least your trustee has discharged you while they look into PPI, as there are companies that are refusing to do this.

Bear in mind as well that in some cases the Trustee will no doubt have to take the complaint to the Financial Ombudsman. With the amount of PPI claims in the system I don't imagine they would resolve matters quickly.
