Hi,

I'm just looking for a bit of advice.

When I was on trust deed all my letters from the HMRC were redirected to my trustee. They then used to forward them onto me.

I've been discharged for a while but haven't received any letters from the HMRC for a long time (probably around 3 years) . To complicate matters further my trust deed was transferred to another company during my trust deed. I'm wondering when you are discharged would the HMRC be informed and automatically start sending letters directly to me.

The reason I ask is my tax codes have changed a lot due to various job changes etc so want to keep an eye our on any additional payments/refunds going forward.

Thanks

Hi MagicR.

I really don't know the answer to this. Hopefully Kevin or Paul will be able to share some more information when they next visit the forum.

Have you changed address since your trust deed? Have you contacted HMRC to ask why you're not receiving letters?

HMRC would presumably have been advised of your discharge by your former trustee, however it is quite common in my experience that they don't necessarily update their records at the time and continue to send letters to the trustee. We would always contact them again to get this stopped, but it's possible that your own trustee hasn't.

Easiest thing to do would be to contact HMRC yourself to check this. You can also register for online access to your personal tax account these days, which you would probably find very helpful to keep an eye on things.
