Hi there.
I have been stressing about my debt for months now and finally spoke to someone at Carrington Dean on Friday. They have sent me all the documents today. My head is in a spin. I’m really worried that my creditors won’t agree to protect the TD and where that would leave me from there. I’m worried that my Trustee will squeeze me for every last penny. I’ve got 4 young children, I just feel like I’ve let everyone down and don’t know what to do for the best.
Hi Ladyjip, I totally understand your position, 4 years ago i made the phonecall that got my life back and stopped me being scared of the Postman and of the phone ringing.
I realised that after paying my debts I had no wages left and out of desperation I made the call even though I was ashamed to do so. It was the best decision I ever made. Carrington Dean took control of everything and were very fair with regards to the expenditure calculations. I too was worried about creditors knocking back the proposal as I had 11 of them, but they realised that this was their best chance of getting any money back at all so nobody objected.
In 3 weeks time I make my final payment and will for the first time since I was 18 i will be debt free. The 4 or 5 year period to get to this stage feels like a lifetime at the start of the process but i can honestly say that the time has flown past.
You feel no different than any of us were feeling, but take on all advice and make the best decision for you and your family.
Best of Luck
Welcome to the forum Ladyjp,
Congratulations for reaching out for advice about something that has been stressing you out so much. That's a huge positive step forwards and you should feel proud for reaching out for advice so that you can start to think about moving forwards.
I've no reason to doubt that you have already received good advice and support, but why not take further advice (a second opinion) in case it can help to reassure you about the concerns that you still have? Your concerns about your children and the creditor response are clearly fundamentally important to you, so it would be wise to feel sure.
I hear you about your concerns that you have let people down, but there's genuinely always a way to make things good again. Debt advisers know this, but we also know that isn't always how it feels when people feel trappeed by financial challenges.
Hi Ladyjp. Well done for taking those first steps despite your fears. The initial leap into the unknown is the hardest part I think, and you should feel proud that you have faced up to the problem. You certainly are letting nobody down.
Hopefully you don't feel pressured into anything by the speed with which the process has happened so far. It is important to take your time and to feel comfortable with what you decide to do. As Jimmi has said, a Trust Deed can be a great choice for dealing with a difficult situation, but it isn't the same for everybody and for your own peace of mind I feel it is worth taking time now to ensure you understand all of your options fully and are taking the one that you feel is best for you. TDA's suggestion of getting a second opinion is a good one, as I expect it will likely soothe your concerns if you are getting similar advice from more than one place.
I'm nearly a year into my trust deed and it's been brilliant, What got me to finally sort my debt was a 3k debt letter from HMRC now it's all gone, Well it's there but I pay £40 a week out my wages and after a few months you don't even think about it. My credit score has actually went up it was below 100 for years now it's up at 530. My car died just before Xmas and they let me get a car on finance. I would recommend it. They leave you enough to live, You won't have much extra after your expenses but your not going to be sitting in the dark living on aldi baked beans either. All that's really changed from my lifestyle is I don't buy as much take ways and games. Its hardly a struggle.

Thanks,
Hopefully the original poster goes through with it, It is fast but that.just means your debt free quicker, 4 years isn't a long time to clear your debt. Its 4years of no letters/phone calls and no pressure it's a light at the end of the tunnel.
Hi everyone.
Wow who’d have thought less than 24 hours later I’d been feeling so different. I spoke at length to Andrew from here who then referred me to Paul McDougall for another in depth conversation which explored some different avenues to a Trust Deed. I’m hoping to go with a Debt Assistance Scheme which I feel is right for me and my circumstances. I honestly feel like a weight has been lifted! Thank you so much to everyone who advised a second opinion and I am glad I listened to my misgivings and posted on here.
