That is a really helpful article, explaining it well. Thank you.

I do agree that the Edinburgh Gazette should take responsibility for altering their coding to prevent unnecessary and irrelevant access to the information.

I wrote back to them to ask about their policy and use of the information including the relevance of making it available in internet public searches for four years and 11 months. What a random number.

....... no reply so far.

I am patiently waiting to see if my name falls off after 4 years and 11 months - any time in the next week. And in the meantime, my form is submitted to Google to remove my name.

Oh, and my name appeared as number one entry today :-(. Probably because I have popularised the search by checking it so much!

UPDATE

I received an e-mail from Google saying they needed information to process my enquiry. They asked me the same letter as the form and yet below they had copied my information from the form, showing I had answered it. I have no idea what I may have missed from the form or what exactly they need from me other than what I submitted. It is unclear.

No contact number.

I have replied giving them my phone number and asking them to call me to clarify since I believe I have given them what they are looking for.

watch this space .............

Good luck with that Firewalker and thanks for letting us know.

Google's press comments on this are all strongly emphasising that this is very new to them and that they're gently feeling their way into dealing with it.

I can understand why your name will come up in searches and that it's a factual record, what I can't understand is why your address is published too? That is what makes me so uneasy, there all sorts out there and it makes me nervous to think any tom dick or weirdo could find out where I live, with youngsters in the house I just can't shake off these feelings now. Can you imagine it was some sort of celeb or public figure in a TD and then anyone determined/strange enough could just turn up at their house?

**UPDATE**

The Edinburgh Gazette said the search link is removed after 4 years and 11 months. That ended yesterday (10th) for me. I just did a Google search (at 2am on 11th) for my name and it has not appeared linked to a Trust Deed. What a relief that it has disappeared just as they indicated.

I have not been contacted by Google to advise that my enquiry has been processed and search link removed, so I believe this change is from the Edinburgh Gazette.

I was fortunate that it was so close to the period defined by the Gazette, however, for those who have quite a time to go, I would suggest pushing Google for them to remove the search link.

And, for what it is worth, I would push for the Gazette to remove the link to google searches, or at least remove full address.

Good luck everyone. I am just delighted and relieved that mine seems to have disappeared. Will let you know if it re-appears and I hear anything from google regarding their process.

HELP? I did another search tonight to ensure there was no listing by the Edinburgh Gazette - from another computer. And horror or horrors, up pops another posting through Google Search.

I am adding the link here with the FAQs so that you can see what information is given and hope that anyone here can make sense of it.
I know you do not normally post links however, this is very relevant for the current issue and there is too much information to copy over.

(Broken link removed by admin).

Here is an extract. They are based in Romania ??!

We are located in Constanta, Romania, European Union, so your data protection rights are prescribed by Law no.677/2001 on the Protection of Individuals with Regard to the Processing of Personal Data and the Free Movement of Such Data. Click here to read the English version of this law, published on the portal of the European Commission.

AND ANOTHER extract.....

Isn't it wrong to publish personal data ?

A quick Google Search for "globe24h.com" will pull up some unfair articles about us in the Canadian press, especially Financial Post and CBC Toronto, arguing that is the case. However, we believe in freedom of speech and giving citizens the power to criticize each other and the government. Click here to read these articles.

The website states that the information will appear in searches by Google, Bing and Yahoo. I don't want to keep searching or it moves the entry up the search results page.

Will this every go away? Or do I have to spend my time checking to see any links that may exist for me? I wonder if they pulled the information from the Edinburgh Gazette and if the EG could change the codes to remove access to the information? Actually, I don't know where 24h get the information in the first place.

I am really upset about this now.

I have had a look around the internet about 24h and found a forum post on MoneySupermarket identifying the 24h company as operating a moneymaking scam with Canada in particular and also listing numerous sites they use for the information. I believe they gather the information and save it on their sites. There are various organisations expressing disdain at the company's actions although so far it has not been enough to close it down.

I have written to the Edinburgh Gazette to ask what information or advice they have since the information came from them. I wonder if I have to do the same with google (although someone raised a request to have it removed and google refused).

Will this never end??

Hi Big Al. I do not remember reading your post on your success. Well done on getting that result last year. It took me ages between The Gazette, Google and ultimately writing to the ICO to get their ruling before Google would remove it - last week! Seems strange Google replies to me refused to remove the link and refused 3 appeal e-mails and around the same time said yes to you. Perhaps there were fine differences. No matter, I am pleased for you. What a concern it was.
