Hello All- Im moving house soon and wondering if anyone ever had probs getting utilities and phone line etc set up when in a Trust Deed- ive heard stories of people being forced to have meters installed when made bankrupt and wondered if i would face the same thing- ive also noticed that a lot of phone companies credit check so now im getting worried- i also need to take out tenants insurance again has anyone had probs with this
Many thanks folks

Hi Bee
Its a good point, although I have never came across a problem in any cases I have ever dealt with.
Probably because they are already in place when the do the Trust Deed etc.

Thanks Mark- id be really interested to hear from anyone who has moved whilst in a TD and any probs they had or companies they used
Thanks B
I.ve known people to be credit checked for the removal of a PAYG meter not because of a TD though. The utilities companies seem to ignore that a new account holder has a separate history and they assume a property which had a prepayment meter due to bills being unpaid will still be an issue. It may be due to an existing debt being included in their bankruptcy or PTD that the utility provider is then also a creditor. That would seem reasonable for them to want to change to the prepayment meter.
Thanks Pamjo- the place im going doesnt have a meter im just wondering if i would have probs getting gas elec and a phone line installed- i dont have any outstanding bills with any utility company and pay all with DD but i will need to set up new accounts when i move and im worried i wont get a phone line or gas and elec without having to accept a meter which i dont want- hope that makes sense

Certainly makes sense to think about and ask these questions in advance. There may be recent changes in this as there have been in many areas where finance is part of our arrangements but I've never been credit checked to my knowledge when just moving. Are you keeping the same supplier on moving?
Hi- I spoke to my exisitng provider today who advised that when i move i will need to find out who new provider is and if i want to stay with them i can swop over but it will take a few weeks- but again just not sure if i will be credit checked by new provider as the new tenant and credit checked if i move supplier- re phone im currently with BT and would be happy to stay but obviously it will be a new account etc- im having sleepless nights worrying about this- prob not a good idea to do TD and move at same time but had no choice unfortuntly
I moved after the start of my TD as I surrendered my house to the bank and moved into rented accommodation. I had my phone line with Sky and just transferred the ccount with their home move service without issue. The flat I moved into had its utilities provided by one of the big 6 (can't remember who) and I just used my existing supplier's home move service (British Gas) to take over the account. They handled it all and there was no issue. It took about 6 weeks to transfer and I just had to pay the supplier who already provided gas and electricity to the flat up until the date of the changeover.
As long as your current supplier is not one of your creditors for the TD you should be fine if you take them with you to your new place.
Glad that's over with....
