Hi folks, I have just joined this forum and looking for some advice from you please.
I had a TD and thankfully got it secured and made every payment over the 3 years and the TD was finished just over a year ago.
I recently tried to open a Joint Bank account with my wife as we both have direct debits coming out so wanted to open account and have all the DD's coming out of the one account. I had to give a copy of my cerificate of closure and finally after about 6 months was able to open a basic account.
I want to get a contract mobile phone in my name but am worried that if i apply i will get rejected and that will show as a negative on the credit system.
Can anyone please advise me how i can start building up a credit history again or what i need to do to avoid getting rejected?
Thank you
Hello zebedee8.
Because the subject of credit ratings (and getting credit) after trust deeds comes up quite frequently we've added some articles to the site over time that may be helpful.
Have a read of the following and let us know if you have any questions afterwards:

Hopefully our other members will be able to share what has worked for them, including suggestions about mobile phone contracts.
Thanks for the very quick reply and links TDA
I got accepted recently for a vanquis credit card, hoping that some green ticks start appearing on my credit files.

A new dawn.
Hi zebedee8,
I finished my TD in 2009 and once I was discharged I got a vanquis card straight away and opened up a littlewoods catalogue account with no problems. A year after discharge I was unable to get a loan from my bank for a car but did get finance for a brand new car (go figure, had to borrow 3 times more than I wanted too!). Just shy of two years after discharge I applied for and got a joint mortgage and just recently I got a loan from my current account provider for a car (I sold and cleared my new car finance when I had a baby). I also got a contract with vodafone this year no bother. All defaults and the TD are still on my credit file (all accounts are marked as settled) all due to drop off in September. Hope this helps.
Hi zebedee8,
Like blacklily I too finished my TD in 2009 and n January this year i applied for a Capital One Basic Credit Card and was accepted with a £200 limit. I also applied through phones 4 u for a contract mobile phone but was rejected by all networks. However straight away after coming off the phone from phones 4 u I phoned O2 directly and was accepted immediately! The only difference in the two applications was that O2 asked for 2 forms of ID, I used my debit card and my driving licence for this. Both these were applied for with the TD still showing on file and 2 creditors still showing in default for combined values of £10,500! So certain companies will accept you, but it is best to go directly and not through 'broker' shops like phones4u or carphone warehouse, the networks want your business and will do more to accept you than these shops.
Hope this advice helps!
