I made my final payment last month to Knightsbridge. Having heard nothing I contacted them today and was advised that discharge will take between 6 to 12 months.
When I signed my TD I was with Kelsom, I was advised by them that the discharge process took a maximum of 8 weeks. My TD was transferred to Knightsbridge over a year ago but I've no idea why. I've made all my payments on time, the PPI was dealt with early in the process and I've paid the abandonment fee. Why 6-12 months?

Hi pedasus and welcome to the forum.

First of all well done on successfully completing your Trust Deed. Reaching this point in the journey I'm sure must feel excellent.

There is effectively two discharges when it comes to a Trust Deed now. The first one is your discharge and the second is your Trustees.

The important one for you is your discharge which is called a Form 5. This can be processed and sent to you once you have completed your final payment. Once you receive this you are completely debt free and finished with the Trust Deed.

Generally my firm Wylie Bisset aim to send a client their Form 5 certificate of discharge within 4-6 weeks of completing their final payment. After this is then takes us a couple of months to make dividend payments to the creditors and close the file off requesting our discharge. I think some firms may wait until they are nearing the end of their part in the Trust Deed to discharge the client.

The best thing to do is keep on top of your Trustee for your discharge and be proactive with it. If you are you will hopefully receive this a little quicker than 6-12 months. As I said there is nothing stopping them discharging you now from your Trust Deed.

As David says, there is no reason that it should take this long assuming you have met all of your obligations. I'd take it up with them again and ask why so long. Any work that they have to do can be done after you yourself are discharged.

Hi pedasus,

It's not ideal but sometimes it's the person that shouts the loudest gets moved to the top of the pile and prioritised. That's the best way to ensuring you receive your Form 5 as quickly as possible.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for all of your excellent advice. I've been shouting and I'm told that form 5 is in the post. I've checked the AIB website and the debtor discharge date is down as 2 weeks ago. It appears I've made it.

Indeed pedasus - you've obviously managed to make yourself enough of a pest to hurry them along. Well done and congratulations on your discharge.

That's excellent news pedasus, well done for keeping on at them.

If the register has the date of your discharge then that's you now debt free.

Any celebrations planned this weekend?

You've made it pedasus.

The entry on the register of insolvencies makes your discharge official.

Congratulations to you.

I've now received form 5 and have begun trawling through my credit file. How long is reasonable to expect lenders to update on this?My release date on the AIB website is 10/5/16, some have already been updated but most haven't as yet.
Can you advise on what to write to the lenders, and if possible give me a steer on where to find addresses. I'm finding this part quite tricky.

Hi pedasus.

I'd give your creditors a month or two - otherwise you might make some unnecessary work for yourself.

I also signed up with kelsom and went to Knightsbridge one of the directors is listed for both companies !!

They took 14 months to discharge me and lots of complaints to AIB to get it resolved, in KB own words they didn't really have a full understanding of the TD I'm still waiting for trustee to be discharged 22months after my final payment
