Hi,
i have been paying my scottish trust deed for 18 months , have another 24 months to go but am planning to emmigrate with my partner on his visa at the end of this year to Australia.
Does anyone know what will happen with my trust deed and would i be allowed to emmigrate whilst paying it??!!

Welcome to the trust deed forum couparman.

The first thing to say is that your Scottish trust deed does not prevent you from emigrating in itself.

You can continue to pay it, though the payment will be reviewed in line with your new circumstances.

If your ability to pay into the trust deed is reduced by this change the trust deed may be extended due to the fact that the change in circumstances was within your control. Hopefully that will not be an issue though.

Life certainly doesnt go on hold just because of a trust deed.

Will there be much change to your disposable income? Have you worked out likely income and expenditure figures?

Paying the TD from overseas wont be a problem,I hope you enjoy the change in lifestyle, just watch out for those little spiders!!

Paul

Trust deed completed Jan 2012,Trustee discharge Nov 2012.

Thanks very much, that has put my mind at ease as I thought having a Trust Deed might prevent me from emmigration. I moved from Scotland to England last year and my job changed then and I advised them of changes and there was no problems, just worried incase Australia wouldn't allow people with debt into their country...?

My income will change and expenditure figures so my payment most likely will too but I am more than willing to make the payments.

And Paul it is not only the 'little' spiders I'm scared of it's the big ones too :O Good to hear your Trust Deed has finished!

Hi couparman.

I'm afraid I have no idea what criteria the Australians use to assess people who want to move there.

You may wish to make checks with their embassy.
