Hi. Last July I took voluntary redundancy and used the money to pay off my trust deed which had been running for 1 year. The money was paid to my trustee in September but I am still waiting on discharge. Although the money I paid was less than what I owed it was substantially more than I would have paid if I had stayed in work. Anyway I now have a couple of questions which I'm hoping someone can help me with.

1. Is it usual for discharge to take this long? The trustee has also put a ppi claim in process so would this delay it?

2. I am waiting on an income tax refund - not sure when it will but paid but do I need to tell my trustee about this? It's approx ?é£1000.

3. My husband has surprised me with a very cheap holiday/honeymoon abroad - haven't had a holiday for 7yrs and looking forward to getting away with him and the kids. I'm not sure whether I need to tell my trustee I'm going away in case they need to contact me. My mum is looking after the house and she doesn't know about any of this so don't want her checking for phone messages etc.

Hoping someone can give me some advice. Thanks.

Hi scottishgirl and welcome to the forum.

Did your trustee definitely agree that you would be discharged upon payment of the redundancy money? If so, then I don't see why it should take this long.

It may well be because of the PPI issue, though there is actually no reason why you cannot be discharged while your trustee remains in office to sort out the PPI reclaim.

Re income tax refund - this would normally have to be declared and the trustee could seek these funds to be paid into the trust deed.

I guess if you want to play safe regarding your holiday, then you should contact your trustee and advise you will be away and that they shouldn't try to contact you for a couple of weeks.

Enjoy the holiday! What a nice surprise!

Hi. Thanks for the reply.
Yes the trustee agreed to the amount and the money has been paid to the trustee. I haven't made any payments since last September. Haven't heard anything from any debtors either.
I'm not sure when the income tax refund will be made. I have spoken to HMRC and they said it could be anytime up to end of October this year - they are waiting on my ex-employer sending details which, if knowing them, will take some time. Would this not delay my discharge even longer?
Was worried re the holiday as it probably won't look good me going on holiday whilst in a trust deed. Husband has saved up his money tho as I'm not earning now.
Thanks again for the reply.

Hi scottishgirl.

The experts here will correct me, but I think your responsibility is simply to truthfully answer any questions that your trustee asks you and to make them aware of any payments that you receive prior to being discharged.

There's nothing about being in a trust deed that means that you cannot go on holiday. If you feel that your trustee might need to contact you at short notice it may be worth letting them know that you'll be away. I cannot see it causing any kind of problem for you.
