I am thinking of doing a debt arrangement scheme is it better seeing council debt adviser or going with a private firm .i have been in contact with begbies traynor i would be able to set it up quicker if i went with them i know they charge a fee or will i be better waiting to see a council debt advise
Hi jd61
I dont think there's a straight answer as such. One is quicker, the other charge a fee as you state.

I agree with Mark that there is no clear answer to this question. It really comes down to your own preferences and priorities.
We speak to some people for whom getting out of debt as quickly as possible is the main goal. In such cases it may be worth waiting for an appointment with an adviser that can give you free access to the debt arrangement scheme to take the fees out of the equation.
We also speak to some people that want their current situation taken care of as quickly as possible as are quite happy to pay a fee to do so. Some also take the view that they'll feel entitled to demand a certain level of service if they're paying a fee.
Two points I would add for your consideration:
1 - The way commercial operators charge for DAS varies a lot. It's probably worth doing some comparison to make sure any proposed fees are competitive. The higher the fees the longer your debt arrangement scheme will be.
2 - Service will be very important during what is likely to be a fairly long arrangement. You may want to take some steps to confirm that whoever you use, paid for or not, is an organisation that you have reason to believe will treat you well as a client.
