I have been reviewing my credit file on here and I have used a payday loan (once). From what I am reading, these things are bad news as far as your credit rating goes for mortgages etc. I am miles off being able to remortgage but does anyone know if the entry will eventually drop off after a few years if I don't use them again?

Forgot to add - there is an entry on there for Barclaycard saying I am six payments late. It isn't showing as defaulted, even though I haven't paid it for four years and it was included in my TD! Should this not be showing as defaulted rather than late?

Hi CIF.

Payday loans will show for six years like anything else. There's a growing body of evidence that mortgage lenders really don't like to see them when making lending decisions.

Could you remind us whether you've been discharged from your trust deed? Assuming that's the case the account should no longer indicate that you're behind on payments because there are no payments to make.

Haven't been discharged yet TDA. Making final payment this week. It should have been last year but there was an issue over the ยฃ500 equity buy out, which I disputed for a bit.

On the Barclay card front, I guess it is better for me that is showing as late rather than a default? Less of an impact I would have thought.

I'm not sure it really matters CIF, you'll want it all cleared up once the discharge comes through.
