Hi,

I have just received my discharge letter and want to know when I should check my credit file, as I want to get a credit card asap to start building my credit so that in the future I am able to get a mortgage.

Also is there a time limit that the companies who deal with the trust deed have to finalize the trust deed? I only ask because I am not very satisfied with the time it has taken from my final payment to getting the discharge letter.

I would leave it a few weeks at least, just to give creditors/credit reference agencies a chance to update the information.

Regarding your second question, there is no defined time period, though it should really be done within a reasonable timescale unless there is another reason that it cannot. How long was the gap?
