I'm just having one of those months!

Everything seems to be going wrong!

Car needed unexpected repairs after it's MOT, the other half got two parking tickets (in the dog house), car needs taxing at the end of the month - I have no idea why so many of my family and friends were born in October - there must have been a power cut in January [:D] - and I did do the cheap pressies/card thing!

Anyway I thought I would try and save some money on my internet/phone/tv provider as I had received a letter through the door from Virgin. If I changed to them I would be saving around ยฃ50 for the first six months then around ยฃ30 for the remainder of the contract.

I duly telephoned the number and spoke to a lovely customer service advisor who confirmed the savings that I had calculated. I said that I would like to go ahead with that and so he started to take some details. I think I may have been sleep deprived as it took me a couple of minutes to catch on!! HE DID A CREDIT CHECK!!! and then said "oh you have been referred". I felt like saying well duh in a trust deed so of course I will have been!

I read the small print before I even contacted them and couldn't see anything that said a credit check would be carried out as I would not have applied for it as I knew it would be rejected.

Sitting rocking in a corner, just waiting for the call to confirm the rejection.....

Hi Neverendingstory.

What a horrible list of things to arrive together.

You might not be rejected. I wonder if they'll look at your credit file to see whether your payment record to your existing internet/TV/phone provider is good...

I love your positivity TDA!

Just received the phone call to say that I have been rejected! Then the lovely customer service person gave me some advice on how to clean up my credit file! I did have a giggle!

Oh dear... I'm sorry to hear that.

I think we've heard from some people in the past that have been accepted for these types of services during their trust deeds which gave me some cause for hope.

It doesn't seem like much credit to offer (or risk to them) given that they can switch you off within a couple of weeks of missing a payment.

It does seem silly to lose potential customers but that's the price we pay for having colourful credit histories!!

Hi prenticebaby

Glad you got a good deal!

I was moving from Sky to Virgin as the service we have been receiving from Sky has been appalling! Now stuck with Sky so will be on the phone daily trying to sort all the internet problems out!

U shld phone sky and tell them ur leaving as it too expensive. They always have deals to entice u to stay. We do it every 6 mths or so and can get 20% of our bill.

I changed mobile broadband provider and the guy casually threw in that he was just doing a quick credit check, I thought I was a certainty to fail, but it went through okay, although last year, our car insurance company removed the option to pay monthly, which was a pain as we obviously don't have the money lying about to pay in a lump sum!

I did speak to Sky and managed to get 20% off my bill for 3 months. So in January I may have to "leave" again!!!
