I have about 18months left on my trust deed but I'm up for a new position in work. If I get it, it'll be more money but also a fair amount of travelling.
The travelling will be to the USA and whenever you check into a hotel there you need to secure the room with a credit card. I can use my debit card if there are funds in my account, but the authorization will stay on it for one or two weeks and I won't have access to those funds whilst the authorization is live.
I got a prepaid card the last time I went, but that requires me having money to load onto it and again not being able to use it whilst the authorization is on the card.
I could really use an actual credit card for this purpose, does anyone know of any companies that will lend to someone who has a trust deed?
Hi GillianWood and welcome to the trust deed forum.
I'm not aware of a particular credit card lender that will provide a new card during a protected trust deed. Another member or visitor may be able to add detail if they have had success in this area. As you appear to be aware, nothing about your trust deed itself prevents this from happening, it's just down to the lenders acceptance criteria.
I assume that your employer never issues corporate credit cards?
Hi Gillian
I am not aware of any companies as such. I wonder if the best idea would be to see which ones are linked to your normal working account bank and apply to see what they say.

Thanks for the quick replies, my company do have company credit cards but I doubt the position is high enough to get one, my boss would do most bookings and arrange payments on his card, I don't need money to spend, just to authorise.
My bank won't give me an overdraft so I doubt they'll give me a credit card, but I'll maybe try one of these super high interest rate like capital one and see what I can get.

Hi Gillian,
I went through a similar situation at work. One way round this was to become a named user on a card belonging to a relative, friend or spouse.(not necessarily in that order) High interest card would be fine if you pay on statement though.
Ralph
Thanks Ralph,
I looked at being a secondary cardholder on my mum's credit card when I went over to the US last year but was told we had to reside at the same address 🙁
If I get the job I'll look at the options again, I was hoping someone here would have had some success with a company I could look at using. Hopefully I'll get enough of a salary bump I can get a prepaid and not miss a hundred or so pounds to put on it.
