Received my form 5 today [:D]

I'm now going to write to the creditors on my file and ask them to adjust the date of the default to the correct date. My question is, should the default date be the date of my Trust Deed or the date it became protected. I'm assuming the former but thought I would check.

Can't seem to edit my post but another question. Some of the debts have been bought by recovery agencies, how do you know where to send your letters?

That's a forum quirk mapleleaf, you cannot edit the first post on a thread. Not sure why!

Congratulations on getting your Form 5.

Usual warning, we have no particular expertise regarding credit files and absolutely no training.

My guess is that the date of signing will apply.

Some credit reference agencies provide contact details for debt purchasers on their reports. Otherwise, you may need to try to find them online.

My own two cents:
It's the date the trust deed became protected - this should be on your discharge form.
I'd contact those showing on the credit files and ask them to contact their records. I had most success contacting the complaints department each time. You'll find that there are inconsistencies between Equifax, Experian and Noddle so best to check them all.

I agree that the date of protected status being granted is the date to go for.

I guess it's not really a material difference anyway, probably a difference of five to six weeks in most instances?

I'd suggest trying the date of signing because that's when you became bound by the trust deed and presumably started to pay into it.

If a creditor objects and wants to use the protection date I doubt that anyone would or should stress about that short extra period too much.

Thanks for the feedback. I would agree if there were 5/6 weeks difference in the dates, I would accept the date it became protected. However, in my case, it was signed on the 28 May and became protected around the 8th August.

It does state on the Form 5 that the date I signed is the date I turned my estate over to the trustee so I'm going to push for that date. A couple of defaults are already set to that date. Just the others I need to sort out.
