I was discharged from my TD at the start of November 2013 and have held off checking up on credit files etc until now (at the earliest) to give things a chance to sort themselves out and update.
Can someone point me in the right direction as to which companies etc I should be requesting credit checks from?

Hi debtfree13.

When we looked into this we felt the best service for this is CreditExpert. It's not the cheapest however. You can access a free trial and more information about this at:

Other options are Equifax, CallCredit, Noddle and the ยฃ2 statutory reports that the main credit reference agencies provide.

Thank you for the reply.
I have requested the ยฃ2 statutory report from CreditExpert and gained access to my ยฃ2 report from Equifax straight away.
The Equifax report is showing everything satisfied except the 2 credit cards which were included in the TD- I'm guessing I will need to write to them and provide some sort of proof of discharge etc.
Can anyone point me in the direction of a template letter or similar? or even any info on how to go about doing this?

I think you just need to request, in writing or by telephone, that your record gets updated to reflect your discharge. Documentation confirming your discharge might be useful supporting evidence debtfree13.

Hopefully that will be enough to get things changed. Let us know if it isn't.

Thank you for the reply TDA.
I have my form 5 which I suppose I could photocopy and send as evidence to them?

Also, is this something my trustee could help with? (writing to card companies perhaps?)
I know it takes time for files to update but the fact everything else has updated suggests the card companies are not going to do it without a little encouragement!!

Hi debtfree13.

Dealing with credit reference agencies falls outside of the scope of the work that a trust deed provider does for their clients.

That's why the insolvency experts here, and myself as a debt adviser, make no claims to be experts when it comes to credit reports and credit reference agencies.

A photocopy of your Form 5 might well be helpful.

You are correct. A lot of people seem to find that they have a creditor or two that needs some encouragement to get on with this.

Hi debtfree13,

I've used Experian, Equifax and Noddle and found that my preference was for Experian. The only downside to Experian and Equifax is that after the free trial you need to pay to continue using it whereas Noddle you can log in and use for free but it's only updated once a month.

If you feel comfortable enough, you could post which creditors you are having difficulty with on the forum and if any of the forum users have experience with those creditors they may be able to share some useful information like addresses and contact points.

As TDA has pointed out, it falls outside the role that we perform. Once your discharged and the Trustee receives their discharge your file is closed and we are therefore unable to deal with issues like that.

Send the creditors a copy of your Form 5 in the post and also via email. If you are not able to scan a copy of your Form 5, you can download an extract from the Register of Insolvencies website and email this to the creditor which confirms your discharge date also or request your Trustee to email you a copy.

Hi David, thank you for the reply.
I need my 2 credit card files updated- one is with MINT, the other is a Halifax card. Any help on who in particular to contact at these companies would be much appreciated!
I am able to scan documents etc at home so if I can find the correct people to get in touch with at each company I will send through a copy of the form 5 plus the extract from the register of insolvencies

Hi Debtfree13

I tried MINT customer services unsuccessfully, until I got this contact for RBOS. Hope it is helpful and you are successful. I am finding it a slow process to get them updated, them one by one, however, getting the Data Controller address was recommended on this site by another member (sorry cannot remember name - maybe Plasticdraft).

The Data Controller
The Royal Bank of Scotland plc
36 St. Andrew Square
Edinburgh
Midlothian.
EJ2 2YB

REF: MINT credit card

Good luck

Not sure About Halifax or if it is HBOS head office. Again recommend you get the address for the Data controller.

Hi debtfree13.

You should be able to put this through the customer service teams, but you might prefer to write to the "data controllers" at these organisations.

The details will probably be on their websites, but if they're not they will be on the Information Commissioner's register of data controllers (online).
