Can anyone advise me on this please, I am 2 years into my TD and am currently on maternity leave. Due back to work soon but only part time as I cant get a place for my baby in childcare apart from 2 days a week. My question is my wage will drop by more than half and I will have childcare costs on top so with the TD payment I am going to be not earning enough to pay both. Will not paying as much extend the TD? That is what I am trying to avoid as I only have a year to go and would so much like this to be over with. Thanks in advance for you help.
Hi hellsbells80.
I'm really sorry, but the only person who is going to be able to answer this is your trustee. You should seek confirmation from them.
I do hope that they take a sympathetic view when they make their decision.
I think it is likely that they will look to extend the term I'm afraid. At the end of the day, having a baby isn't normally a circumstance that is out of your control and it isn't really fair to expect your creditors to get less because of a decision you have made.
Hi Hellsbells80,
Like TDA has advised it's really only your Trustee that can give you an answer on whether or not your Trust Deed will be extended.
As Kevin has advised though your Trustee may decide to extend the term to ingather what was proposed to your creditors so you need to be prepared for this. Have you maintained your agreement payments since being on maternity leave?
Have you sat down and looked at your budget and calculated your benefit entitlement and what this will bring into the household?

Thanks for your replies, have been looking over all my financial options and work with the TD payments and childcare leaves me nothing. I think to get to the end off the TD I will have to just get on with it and make best I can for the 12 months. I have not missed any payments on my TD and everything is in order. Kevin I didn't expect sympathy just good advise..Thanks David.
Not sure what you mean by that to be honest, hellsbells. You asked the question and I answered it - maybe you picked up a tone in my answer that I hadn't intended?
All I'm saying is that whether a change of circumstances is intentional or not can be very important when trustees are considering how to accommodate that change.
Tax credits can often pay a significant proportion of childcare costs, depending on your income. Will you be working more than 16 hours per week?
