My wife and I have been discharged from a trust deed since Novermber last year when we made the final payment, although when I called Taggart to get the exact date we were discharged we were told that it was from March this year. We have a discharge letter dated in December last year and I have requested they send us the discharge details from when our creditors were pain in March.
We are now trying to get car finance as our car is now 12 years old and in need of repairs. We cant afford to pay a garage the amout they were talking about and after being rejected for a car loan from our bank (something to do with a 12 month period) we are trying to find out if there are any other options open to us. We have budgeted for a specific amount but dont want to go down the road of applying to various places for finance as this would have an effect on our credit rating which at the moment is fair. Can anyone help?

I'd be interested to hear if anyone has managed to get HP after being in a trust deed. I think my car is on the downward slope so once my deed is discharged, I'd like to get another one. Never had HP before but know the computer will probably blow up with laughter when I apply[:)].

Nothing left to discharge - everything's done and dusted!

Welcome to the trust deed forum gib2000.

Every lender will have different lending criteria. Your credit score, or your recent trust deed, will be of varying importance to each.

Making a lot of applications in a short period of time isn't a great idea, but you may wish to try a couple more lenders and hire purchase companies.

Hi gib2000, and welcome,

As skintally says, it may be easier to get HP as it is secured on the car, but it will also involve a credit search and I don't know of any way round that. If you are needing a car, would it be possible to get a family member to take a loan out for you, and you can make the payments for it?

This may also help you gillian.

Thanks for the replies.
Had a look at the HP companies and they all want some sort of deposit, and the amounts are quite steep for us at this time. Family member might be an option, but would that stop them getting another loan if they needed a car?
