Welcome to the forum pot123.
We've heard of posters here being successful, others not. You'll only find out by trying I'm afraid.
There are some higher cost finance providers that help people with less than perfect credit histories as well.
Do "credit scores" really mean that much? I mean obviously they relate to credit commitments, past history etc but surely lenders and finance houses look beyond the credit score?
Not sure if that is a rhetorical question, tinsoldier.
I think they are significant because decisions on lending are so automatic and process-driven these days - for example, ask any bank branch manager and they will tell you that they have little if any say on lending decisions. it's a "computer says no" world I'm afraid.
I think anyone looking for credit will often need to score pretty highly in other areas to compensate for a bad credit rating - eg good salary, reasonable deposit etc. That is unless you are dealing with a specialist "sub-prime" lender, where chances are much higher but so is the cost unfortunately!
Hi Tinsolidier,
Did you have any luck apply for car credit? I'm in the same boat and looking for a place that will loan Blackhorse and Santander said no.
Also, I read somewhere recently that credit score is meaning less as every company creates the score from their own criteria.
Myself and my wife finished our trust deeds in July. Are still waiting on our discharge form 5's. Have been signed but in the post next week apparently. Our car died about a month ago and we were successful in obtaining car finance 3 weeks ago through a local dealer from Blackhorse. Explained our situation and expected a subprime loan and was delighted to be offered mainstream finance. Speak to your local garage and not one of the big chains. You may be pleasantly surprised !
