I took my trust deed out last year and stared payments in Dec 09. All going fine so far I never told my wife about the trust deed as this would have caused major problems between us. (She has never had financial probems).

Yesterday she tried to take out a store card to take advantage of a discount, and was refused. As far as I know this is the first time she has tried to get credit since I took out the trust deed.

Is it possible that my trust deed has affected her credit score?

Hi mcbz9

It may be that the address has been listed in the credit file. I think there are earier postings where a letter of disassociation can be sent to the companies to advise that she is not party to the Trust Deed.

A Notice of Disassociation, as I understand it, would normally be used where people live in the same home but manage their finances entirely independently.

This might apply to friends sharing a home or adult children living with parents for example.

I'm not sure that this would be appropriate for a married couple as their financial affairs would almost always be closely linked (e.g. joint mortage or joint tenancy).

With closely linked finances I think it's understandable that some lenders might take this information into account when making a lending decision. They might be concerned for example that one partner who isn't in a Trust Deed is using the credit for the benefit of the person that is in a Trust Deed.

Other lenders seem to be comfortable with lending in these circumstances... every lender has their own acceptance criteria.
