Hi,
Has anyone else who recently entered a Trust Deed is receiving calls from companies about "government-backed debt solutions" that can write off up to half my debts.
I've had 3 calls so far this week, one told me they're contacting everyone who is on a DAS. When I've explained I'm already in a protected Trust Deed they tell me they'll take me off their list.
Is it normal for this to happen during the first 6 months because my name shows on the insolvency register now, or that defaults are recorded on my credit file? Or has something changed in the industry recently?
I'm guessing the calls are nothing to be too concerned about, albeit they're a bit of a nuisance!
Hi shadow79.
Over the years we've heard from lots of people targeted by cold callers. In terms of selling formal debt solutions, I cannot remember reading anything here suggesting that the register of insolvencies was the resource used to initiate the calls.
Of course, that register contains no telephone numbers so it's not of much value to cold callers. We have heard of companies writing to people to sell services after people have been discharged, and a while ago there was a mob writing to people in trust deeds trying to persuade them to use their services to become bankrupt. This seems to be how that register information gets used sometimes.
It's a guess, but I'd imagine they've got hold of your details from a source that's unconnected to your actual entry into a debt solution.
For anyone reading this and considering entering a debt solution - remember you have a choice to use whoever you want. A good decision is more important than a quick decision. Over the years a remarkable number of the most serious and painful problems we've read here can be traced back to a cold call at the start of the process.
Thank you, TDA. I thought it would be nothing to worry myself about, but wanted to double check!
I'd be surprised if they had any information on people in DAS and they are probably on a fishing expedition where probably one in 10+ calls actually get to someone in the DAS process.
We're getting regular calls from the Talk Talk con, where they actually do have account info and try and get you to allow them access to your PC. Even though we have ( politely!!!) told them where to go, they are certainly persistent. But it's scary to think that they're probably successful in a large number of these calls.
