Just found your site.Really good to read differant accounts of our ptd,s. Just thought i,d join in and say to anyone in the "really bad place" (heavy debt worries), To seriously think about applying for a ptd.My wife and i found ourselves in a mountain of debt (over £70,000) and joined the cccs on a dmp. They were great but it was going to take us 13 yrs to pay all our debtors off.Took the plunge after much soul searching contacted rsm tenon and our ptd was passed in may.All going ok up to this time and hopefully in about 3yrs we will be debt free and start getting some normality back into our lives. It,s still a worry that no hidden nightmares pop up ,but nothing like the sleepless nights we endured thinking we would lose everything because of our stupitity (yes it really was our fault). As i,ve said ,really good site and look forward to keeping in touch for advice during our journey.
Welcome to the site needsmust.
I'm really pleased to hear that protected trust deeds have been a good thing for you. Forums, by their nature (and understandably), tend to be used most when people are worried or experiencing difficulties. I think it's valuable that your comments reflect what I think is most peoples experience; namely that trust deeds can be extremely effective in dealing with certain serious debt problems and make a bad situation a whole lot better.
Thanks for your positive words about the site and I hope we'll hear from you again in the future (in a good way hopefully!) as you progress towards discharge and a fresh start.
Good for you, needsmust. That's why the legislation is there allowing people to arrange protected trust deeds - to take the pressure off, be able to move on from previous mistakes/misfortune and achieve a fair solution for all parties.
Thank,s for the nice welcome. Just like to say that the 13yrs we had left with the cccs was calculated after we had been with them almost 4 yrs. So you can see it was a bit of a no brainer when it came to taking out the ptd. As with previous accounts i have read ,yes ,the guilt is there that you can,t stand up and pay what you owe,but sometimes you feel you are fighting a losing battle that will put you under . Worry about debt is a killer, from going to sleep to waking up. I can,t believe if anyone going thru the worry, then a ptd, would ever fall into the "debt trap" again.
No,As i,ve said they were really helpfull and very supportive after we went to them. But at no time did they point us in the direction of a ptd. Our payments were £225 initially ,then upped to £305 due to a surplus after one of our yearly expenditure reviews. As you can see we put an awfull lot of money towards our debt ,but were only scratching the surface.I REALLY REGRET NOT DOING A PTD EARLIER
Most debt advisers would work on the basis of telling you about all of the options open to you, and the pros and cons of each needsmust.
The aim is to equip a client to make the right decisions for themselves from an educated starting point.
I think that it's very disappointing that this doesn't seem to have happened for you, not least because you might have finished the protected trust deed by now rather than just starting out on it.
