Hi

I'm about to open new bank account for my imminent TD (hopefully tomorrow).
Was going to go with Co-Op Casminder, but the Martin Lewis site mentions Barclays Cash Card.(As i have a Barclays Branch fairly close to home this would suit better location wise)

Does anyone have any views/experience with Barclays Cash Card account?

Hi Delboy69.

Plenty of people on here have said good things about it, few have said anything negative.

Barclays does stand proud also as being the only major bank that's takes its wider social obligations seriously enough to provide basic bank accounts to bankrupts.

hi Delboy
I opened a new co op cashminder about a month ago and all has gone well with it so far. Application was easy and smoothly handled. You can pay cash or cheques into any post office so you dont have to worry about finding a branch (there is only a few branches in Scotland anyway I think!), cash is in account immediately and cheques take a while longer, not sure exact timescale. I have paid cash in and it was no bother. You get full internet and phone banking access too, I use the internet a lot with it. You can also register for text alert for your balance once a week and also you can set a minimum balance level and you get a text when you hit that too which is a nice safety feature. Can't comment on Barclays as I avoided them as I owed them through a Barclaycard !!! Good luck ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Delboy69

I opened a barclays cash card a/c back in august and i'm so glad i choose them, i've not had any problems with them at all. They may not have many branches near me but their online banking and mobile app are so handy! I read a lot of good reviews about the co-op cash minder on here but as there is only 1 co-op branch in Glasgow this kind of put me off.

I have been with the co op 5 years now and never been near a branch. Sounds like both options are good ones so take your pick.

I opened an account with Nationwide just prior to signing and now getting worried about them. Can`t get an appointment with Barclay to open an account for 3 weeks.

Thanks for help folk
Sounds like both are a good option. Will go with Barclays as they have a local branch. Hopefully will never need to use branch after today (thanks to Online banking/Mobile App), but will be nice to have it there.
