I was made bankrupt on 17 Jan 2014 under a LILA, have just been to check on AIB website and it says discharge date 17 Jan 2015 discharge by process of law. Does this mean that I am done?

Hi Sarah

Yes, discharge is automatic after 12 months, however the Trustee will remain for the full period of the sequestration and if you are making a contribution, then this will also continue beyond the 12 month period.

I haven't made any contributions and have not been required to do so. So it looks like finally my new chapter can begin.

Hi sezzie,

Well done on becoming debt free.

Often Bankruptcy can feel like the worst thing in the world to do for many people but in fact it can actually be very simple and straight forward for the majority of people.

In your experience, how did you find the whole Bankruptcy process sezzie?

Well done. It's a good feeling isn't it?

I was made bankrupt on 8th February 2013, and discharged on 8th February 2014. My Trustee discharged themselves a short time later on 25th February 2014. I was also under a LILA.

It brought a huge relief to me, and my life has changed for the better. I can't believe it is coming up on a year since I was discharged.
