I'm sorry if this isn't the correct place to ask this but having been a member of this forum the advice is second to none!

My Partner is considering bankruptcy. He lives in England and I wondered if anyone knew of any sites (like this one) for south of the border people? I just need to get some info about how to start the process etc.

Thanks!

Hi Neverendingstory.

I'm happy to answer questions on this subject here. If you want to go to a forum site dedicated to the subject just write "bankruptcy help forum" into Google and you'll find a site called BankruptcyHelp.org.uk which you may find to be useful. The "Insolvency Service" website has some excellent guides on it which could help to answer a lot of questions.

Getting the process started is perhaps a little more tricky than is the case in Scotland. Your partner will need to:

1 - Raise the £700 needed for the fees (unless entitled to a partial exemption).

2 - Obtain the forms and complete them.

3 - Make an appointment with the local court handling bankruptcy work and attend on the day with the forms and money.

It seems a wee bit more complicated down South and more expensive.

I know the Accountant in Bankruptcy has had their budget cut up here, so it will be interesting to see if their £100 sequestration petition costs rise.
