Hi

I am in arrears with Council Tax which is now with sheriff officers. I have an arrangement in place but am unable to make this month's payment due a household emergency. Can the S/O arrest my bank account if I am only in receipt of JSA?

When a Sheriff Officer arrests your bank account, the arrestment takes effect immediately, but it only seizes the funds in account at that point. It also only freezes funds over the Minimum Protected Balance. The Minimum Protected Balance is £529.90

If you are only in receipt of JSA then the likelihood of them affecting any of your bank funds are low.

Can you confirm the full balance of your unsecured debt - perhaps you may be eligible for the Minimum Asset Process (MAP). A MAP is where your debt level is less than £17k and your asset value is low.
