I was with santander who i owed money to loan overdraft etc so i set up a new bank account with natwest which i found out is being taken over with santander in the next couple of months..my question is can santander take money from my account even if my trustdee is protected?? Or should i change accounts again??
Hi blackpanther.
I think this relates to an announcement in 2010. At the time RBS was told they would have to transfer their Natwest branches in Scotland (along with their clients), and their RBS branches outside of Scotland, and Santander stepped in to take them. It was said at the time that it could take 18 months for this to happen.
My understanding is that you will therefore become a Santander client.
I don't think that they can take your money, but it would cause you plenty of disruption if they tried to take it, or if they decided to close your account because they did not want your business based on what has happened in the past.
Another thing to bear in mind is that Santander tend to do quite poorly in surveys of customer satisfaction.
I'd be tempted to move account to be on the safe side.
I certainly wouldnt give them the chance to offset money, and would be looking for an account elsewhere.
Personally I use the co op,even with no branches nearby I havent had any issues in almost 4 years of using.
And with it looking likely they will take over my local Lloydstsb I will have a branch on my doorstep(well a mile and a half away!!).

Trust deed completed Jan 2012,Trustee discharge Nov 2012.
A new dawn.
Nationwide have been very good with me. Could only get a cash card account which I had to open by post but after 6 months of trouble free banking they sent me a debit card. Santander are one of my creditors and were particularly aggressive before I signed my TD
Glad that's over with....
Thanks
Think il get another account sorted before my next pay.
I would avoid becoming a Santander customer at all costs. Any of the other accounts mentioned will be better. Only utilities companies match Santander for frustration to deal with them. They don't allow emails and their internal record-keeping and staff training are awful. Steer clear!!
Thanks for the advice ive jst set up a basic account with lloyds tsb done it all online and got my sort code and account number straight away so i can get my standing orders etc changed in plenty of time for next month.i totally agree about santander i went to my branch to explain that i was in a trustdeed cos of the phonecalls etc thought i was doin the rite thing the girl looked at me as if i jst made it up i even showed her my letter explaining it and had to get a manager who didnt seem sure but said he would take not of my ref etc.they make u feel really stupid
Hi blackpanther
As the other have said i would defently get a bank account sorted out somewhere else in the event anything happens or they close your account on transfer.
I would suggest Barclays Bank they were so great with me and i got an account with debit card and internet banking and i could run my debits from. I explained all my problems with my trust deed and so on and was told there cash card account is for people like ourself and also preparation if things change in the future.
I noticed you now have a llyods account would like to make you aware of somthing with this particular bank, if by any chance you get into financial difficulty in your trust deed (Not saying you will, it's just we all know thing change as time goes on) and can not continue to keep up payments and say for instance you went for sequestration llyods would close your account no questions asked if sequestration was made. I was made aware of this after speaking to them in branch.
