Can anybdoy advise if they are facing the same or similar problems. I made the final payment to my protected trust deed on 1st November 2011. Following some posts I had seen on here I waited approx 8 weeks and then phoned chasing my discharge letter. I was advised they were checking if there was any PPI on my account and that they would chase it up and get back to when they could. I hadn't heard anything so phoned again this week (some 19 weeks after my final payment) to chase up discharge and I was told that they had received confirmation that there is NO PPI on my account but that now the hold up is due to HRMC disputing VAT on trust deeds and that they can't discharge me until this is resolved. Has anybody else heard of this? And, if you have been involved yourself how long did it actually take to receive the discharge. I am keen to receive this letter as even thought I have made my final payment I doesn't actually feel like this is finished until I have that letter in my hand.

Hi wee julz

There's a number of posts on this.

If you signed after April 2008, then there is nothing stopping them discharging you HMRC issue or not. Any decent firm should discharge you, but they can remain in office to sort out the VAT issue.

You should contact them ASAP and advise them of this

Thanks for the quick reply. I signed in 2008 (the summer I think) and TD became protected in December 2008. I'll phone again and advise what you have told me, it just seems athought every time I phone there is another excuse, and if I don't keep on their back's I'm afraid I will just be left at the bottom of the pile and then who knows how long it will take to receive this letter.

Best to stay on top of this Wee Julz.

I do hope they get it sorted out for you soon as it seems their reasons are a little "thin".
